Shepherd Women Knock Off #23 Gannon

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  – Freshman guard Kristen Nunn (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) posted game-highs of 24 points and six assists to lead Shepherd University to a 70-60 win over 23rd-ranked Gannon in women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday afternoon.

Shepherd improves to 2-4, while Gannon, ranked 23rd in the latest D2SIDA poll, drops to 4-2.

Nunn connected on 8-of-15 shots from the floor with a 2-of-6 effort from three-point range. She hit on 6-of-7 foul shots. She added eight rebounds and a pair of steals.

Sophomore guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) added 14 points, while junior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) added 12 points, eight boards, three blocked shots and two steals. Junior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) was also in double figures with 10 points.

Brianna Brennan led the Golden Knights with 19 points. Jennie Theis added eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Gannon got to within five points at 65-60 with 50 seconds left in the game after a layup by Theis. Shepherd sunk 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

The Rams connected on 45.5 percent (25-55) from the floor with a 33.3 percent (4-12) effort from three-point range. Shepherd hit on 84.2 percent of its free throws (16-19). Gannon hit on 32.8 percent (19-58) of its field goals with a 21.1 percent (4-19) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Knights hit on 85.7 percent (18-21) of their free throws.

Gannon had a 38-32 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 17 turnovers and committed 12.

The Rams to action on Dec. 3 when they travel to West Liberty for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
