Shepherd Volleyball Goes 1-1 on the Day

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University split a pair of non-conference volleyball matches at the Butcher Center on Saturday. The Rams gained a 3-0 win (25-7, 25-16, 25-16) over Bowie State and dropped a 3-1 (25-17, 25-20, 12-25, 25-20) decision to Davis & Elkins.

Shepherd moves to 13-16 on the season. Davis & Elkins, also a 3-0 winner over Bowie State in a later match, improves to 12-14, while Bowie State falls to 7-25.

Sophomore middle hitter Christine Jackson (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) and freshman middle blocker/right side Sophie Foster (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) each led the Rams with eight kills against Bowie State.

Freshman setter Becca Kern (Martinsburg, W.Va./Musselman) had 17 assists, while senior outside hitter/opposite Anna Roper (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Huntingtown) and Freshman defensive specialist Allison Crumling (York, Pa./Eastern York) each posted seven digs. Crumling added a match-high seven aces.

Yaje Ngundam had five kills and nine digs for the Bulldogs.

Foster and senior outside hitter/libero Samantha Scroggins (Plainfield, Ill./Naperville North/Kishwaukee) each had nine kills against Davis and Elkins. Jackson added eight kills and five blocks.

Freshmen setter Cyera Dixon (Rushville, Ohio/Fairfield Union) posted 24 assists and sophomore libero/defensive specialist Kelsey Anderson (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) recorded 12 digs.

Elizabeth Estes recorded 20 kills and Devin Saucy added 15 for the Senators.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host UVa-Wise for a 7 p.m. match.
