Shippensburg Defeats Shepherd Women

Box Score SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.  – Morgan Griffith scored a game-high 24 points to lead Shippensburg to a 96-56 win over Shepherd University in women's basketball action at Shippensburg on Wednesday evening.

Shepherd falls to 2-8 on the year, while Shippensburg improves to 10-2.

Sophomore guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) and junior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) led the Rams with 14 points each. Arden added three assists,  two steals, and a rebound, while Myers had six rebounds, three blocks, and  a steal.

Freshman guard Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) contributed nine points and a team-high seven rebounds, while junior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) dished out a team-high six assists.

Colleen Young and Logan Snyder each added 14 points for the Lady Raiders. Victoria Blackburn had 12 points and six assists.

Shippensburg opened the game on a 16-2 run to take control of the contest.

The Rams connected on 34.4 percent (22-64) from the floor with a 12.5 percent (2-16) effort from three-point range. Shepherd hit on 62.5 percent of its free throws (10-16). Shippensburg hit on 52.3 percent (34-65) of its field goals with a 43.8 percent (7-16) effort from beyond the arc. The Lady Raiders were successful on 63.6 percent (21-33) of their free throws.

Shippensburg had a 50-28 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 20 turnovers and committed 21.

The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Concord for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
