Shepherd Men Edged by Wheeling Jesuit

WHEELING, W.Va. – Eric Seifert had 19 points and Pat Moseh added 15 to lead Wheeling Jesuit to a 75-73 win over Shepherd University in MEC men's basketball action at Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday.

Shepherd falls to 3-4 overall, 0-4 in conference play, while Wheeling Jesuit improves to 6-1, 3-1

Sophomore guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) led the Rams with 17 points.

Sophomore forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./Saint James School) added 16 points and team-highs nine boards and four assists, while senior forward Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy) added 11 points and six rebounds.

Kyle Ritz had 12 points and Drake Goddard added 11 for the Cardinals. Haywood Highsmith had eight points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Shepherd led by four points at 72-68 after a pair of free throws by Roman with 5:51 remaining. The Cardinals ended the game on a 7-1 run to rally for the win. Ritz hit a three-pointer and Moseh added a pair of field goals to fuel the run.

Shepherd shot 41.4 percent (23-56) from the floor with a 33.3 percent (8-24) performance from three-point range for the game. The Rams drained 19-of-23 free throws (82.6 percent). Wheeling Jesuit shot 45.8 percent (29-59) from the floor with a 36 percent (9-25) effort from beyond the arc. The Cardinals hit 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) free throws.

Wheeling Jesuit had a 35-34 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed 14.

The Rams return to action on Dec. 13 when they host Shippensburg for a 4 p.m. game.
