Box Score WHEELING, W.Va. – Jaila Bryant scored a game-high 20 points and added nine rebounds to lead Wheeling Jesuit to a 73-66 win over Shepherd University in MEC women's basketball action at Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday.
Senior center
Gabby Flinchum (North Potomac, Md./Wootton) led the Rams with 19 points and nine boards. Flinchum connected on 7-of-12 shots from the floor with a 5-of-7 effort from the foul line.
Freshman guard
Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) added nine points, while senior guard
Rachel Johnson (Frederick, Md./Frederick) and sophomore guard
Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) each contributed eight.
Sophomore forward
Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Lydia Hyburg added 13 points and nine rebounds for the Cardinals. Breanna Butler added 11 points, while Taylor Lubinsky had 10.
Shepherd had a 31-29 lead at halftime.
Shepherd used a 13-4 run to take a nine point advantage at 49-40 after a three-pointer by senior guard
Alex Weakland (Camp Hill, Pa./Cumberland Valley) with 12:24 left in the game.
Wheeling Jesuit responded with a 13-2 run to take the lead for good at 53-51 after a layup by Lubinsky with 9:38 remaining. Lubinsky had six points during the run.
Shepherd shot 38.7 percent (24-62) from the floor with a 40 percent effort (6-15) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 75 percent (12-16) from the charity stripe.
Wheeling Jesuit connected on 38.5 percent (25-65) from the floor with a 30 percent (3-10) performance from beyond the arc. The Cardinals hit on 74.1 percent (20-27) of their free throws.
Wheeling Jesuit had a 51-33 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 11 turnovers and committed 11.
Shepherd falls to 17-8, 14-5 in MEC action, while Wheeling Jesuit improves to 15-7, 12-6. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host UVa-Wise for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
