Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Aaron Miller scored a game-high 21 points to lead Concord to a 62-53 win over Shepherd University in MEC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Senior guard
Austin Cunningham (Vincent, Ohio/Warren Local/Ohio Valley) led the Rams with 19 points and three assists. He connected on 5-of-9 field goals with a 2-of-4 effort from three point range. He was 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Junior forward
Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Presbyterian) added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while freshman guard
Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) also tossed in 10 points.
Jametrius Wade added eight points and seven boards for the Mountain Lions, while Terry Hopewell added five points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Shepherd had a 38-26 advantage at the break with Cunningham (11) and Davis (10) teaming up for 21 first half points.
Concord took the lead for good at 52-50 on a pair of free throws by Rob Reed with 6:22 left in the game. Reed added a three-pointer with 5:11 remaining to up the lead to 55-50 and the Rams were unable to recover.
Shepherd hit on 18-of-55 field goals (32.7 percent) with a 6-of-20 effort (30 percent) effort from three-point range for the game. The Rams connected on 11-of-11 free throws (100 percent).
Concord connected on 21-of-47 field goals (44.7 percent) with a 9-of-20 effort (45 percent) from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions were 11-of-16 from the foul line (68.8 percent).
Concord had a 36-30 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 15 turnovers and committed 10.
Shepherd falls to 13-13, 8-12 in MEC play, while Concord improves to 18-8, 14-7. The Rams return to action on Monday when they host UVa-Wise for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
