Briana Vaden (Stockton, Calif./McNair/San Joaquin Delta College) and sophomore guard
Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) each scored 13 points to lead Shepherd University to a 66-52 win over Concord in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Vaden was 4-of-5 from the floor with a 1-of-1 effort from beyond the arc. She was 4-of-4 from the foul line. She also added six rebounds. Mason was 5-of-11 from the floor with a 3-of-5 effort from the foul line. She added six assists, three rebounds, and three steals.
Senior guard
Rachel Johnson (Frederick, Md./Frederick) tossed in 10 points and tied Mason for game-high assists honors with six.
Senior center
Gabby Flinchum (North Potomac, Md./Wootton) had nine points and four boards, while sophomore forward
Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds.
Jacqueline Kestner had 16 points and eight rebounds to lead the Mountain Lions. Kylie Molisee added eight points and 12 rebounds.
Shepherd had a 35-15 lead at halftime with Vaden (9) and Mason (6) combining for 15 first half points.
The Rams led by as many as 23 points in the second half and substituted freely a good portion of the half.
Shepherd shot 43.5 percent (27-62) from the floor with a 30 percent effort (3-10) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 64.3 percent (9-14) from the charity stripe.
Concord connected on 29.4 percent (20-68) from the floor with a21.4 percent (3-14) performance from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions hit on 64.3 percent (9-14) of their free throws.
Concord had a 48-42 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 23 turnovers and committed 20.
Shepherd improves to 18-8, 15-5 in MEC action, while Concord falls to 7-19, 7-14. The Rams return to action on Monday when they host UVa-Wise for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
