Shepherd Women's Lacrosse Edges Shippensburg

Box Score SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. –  Junior midfielder Erin Phelan (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) and junior attacker Hunter Morris (Severna Park, Md./Severn School) each scored three goals, while senior attacker Georgia Karr (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) added two goals and a game-high three assists to lead Shepherd University to an 11-10 win over Shippensburg University in women's lacrosse action at Shippensburg on Tuesday.

Phelan also added an assist for the Rams, while sophomore midfielder Haley Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), sophomore midfielder Courtney Schwiegerath (Frederick, Md./Oakdale), and freshman midfielder Courtney Matthews (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) each added single tallies.

Shepherd also got assists from sophomore attacker Alex Green (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) and senior attacker/midfielder Kelsey Eagan (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point).

Senior defender/midfielder Alyx Albano (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) had a game-highs of seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls.

Amanda Frank had three goals and an assist, while Sheila Johnson added three goals to lead Shippensburg.

The game was tied at 5-5 at halftime.

Shepherd came out strong in the second half and built an 11-6 advantage with Morris and Phelan each netting a pair of goals during the 6-1 Shepherd run. Matthews scored what proved to be the game-winner on a feed from Karr at the 21:43 mark.

Shippensburg responded with four consecutive goals with Frank scoring a pair. Johnson got the Raiders to within a goal at 11-10 with 1:49 left on a free position goal.

Junior goalkeeper Savannah Shores (Trappe, Md./Easton) stopped Max Barkley's game-tying attempt with 29 seconds remaining to preserve the win for the Rams.

Shores recorded seven saves for the Rams, while Ally Frymoyer had nine saves for the Raiders.

Shepherd had a 26-20 edge in shots, while Shippensburg had a 36-34 advantage in ground balls. The Raiders dominated the draw controls with an 18-5 advantage. Shepherd had a 20-8 edge in caused turnovers.

Shepherd improves to 1-1, while Shippensburg falls to 0-2. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Millersville for a 2 p.m. contest.
Shepherd gained its first win in the series with Shippensburg. The Raiders won the four previous meetings.
