Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University split with Davis & Elkins in softball action at Shepherd on Monday. The Senators gained a 5-4 win in nine innings in game one, while Shepherd earned the split with a 9-7 triumph in the nightcap. The win gave Shepherd head coach
Leslie Lopez her 200th career victory.
Sophomore first baseman
Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson) with two RBI and a pair of runs scored to pace the Rams in the nightcap.
Senior catcher
Shanan Plunkett (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) drove in a pair of runs, while freshman designated player
Molly Staley(Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) added a 3-for-4 effort with a run scored.
Sydney Turner went 3-for-4 and Kayla Whollery went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer for the Senators.
Sophomore pitcher
Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (10 H, 7 R, 5 ER, 3 Ks, 2 BB) (3-0) picked up the win for the Rams. Freshman pitcher
Carmen Vivar (Robertsdale, Ala./Robertsdale) (2.2 IP, 0 R, 2 Ks, 0 BB) gained the save. Taylor Norton took the loss for Davis & Elkins.
Huffman was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to score Norton with the game-winning run to lift the Senators to the win in game one.
Katelyn Norton went 3-for-5 to pace the Senators.
Witt went 3-for-3 with two runs scored for the Rams. Senior third baseman
Savannah Snyder (Elkton, MD/Padua Academy) drove in a pair of runs.
Alexandra Lapallo (9.0 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 3 Ks, 4 BB) picked up the win for the Senators. Vivar (0-2) (2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) took the loss for the Rams.
Shepherd moves to 5-2, while Davis and Elkins is now 4-8. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Salem International at 2 p.m.
