Shepherd Softball Sweeps Salem International

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University pounded out 32 hits on the day en route to a doubleheader sweep over Salem International in softball action at Shepherd on Tuesday. The Rams gained a 10-2 win in five innings in game one and added 16-0 triumph in five innings in the nightcap.

The Rams used a 14-hit attack in game one.

The Rams scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning behind a sacrifice fly by senior third baseman Savannah Snyder (Elkton, Md./Padua Academy), a two-run homer by senior catcher Shanan Plunkett (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown), and a solo opposite field blast by freshman designated player Molly Staley (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) to take a 4-2 lead.

Shepherd pulled away with three more runs in the second on an RBI-single by senior second baseman Elisa Orlandi (Owings, Md./Northern), a sacrifice fly by junior outfielder Kass Taylor (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown), and an RBI-single from Snyder.

Orlandi, Taylor, and freshman shortstop Courtney Clemons (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) each had a pair of hits and scored two runs to pace the Rams.

Katie Chryssofos went 2-for-2 with a solo homer to lead Salem International.

Sophomore pitcher Kirsten Barstad (Joppa, Md./Mercy) (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 5 Ks, 0 BB) (3-0) picked up the win for the Rams. Katie Holestin (3-3) took the loss for the Tigers.

Shepherd smacked 18 hits in the nightcap.

Sophomore first baseman Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson) went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and  three RBI, freshman outfielder Jessica Robinson (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBIs, and Plunkett added a three-run blast to lead the attack.

Senior outfielder Tayler Schaefer (Dunkirk, Md./Northern) added a perfect 4-for-4 outing with three runs scored. Clemons added a 2-for-3 effort.

Sophomore pitcher Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (5.0 IP, 3 H, 1 K, 1 BB) (4-0) tossed the shutout for the Rams. Kayla Lynch took the loss for Salem International.

Shepherd improves to 7-2, while Salem International drops to 4-6. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host UVa-Wise for a 1 p.m. doubleheader
