Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University fell twice to Concord in MEC softball action at Shepherd on Sunday. The Mountain Lions gained a 9-2 win in game one and added a 5-3 victory in the nightcap.
Alyssa Morris went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI to lead the Mountain Lions in game one. Alayna Furr and Allie Reid added three hits apiece.
Senior third baseman
Savannah Snyder (Elkton, MD/Padua Academy) and freshman designated player
Molly Staley (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) each had a pair of hits, while sophomore first baseman
Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson) scored a pair of runs to pace the Rams.
Sophomore pitcher
Kirsten Barstad (Joppa, Md./Mercy) (3.2 IP, 10 H, 8 ER, 4 Ks, 1 BB) (3-1) took the loss for the Rams. Lacey McDougall (7-3) gained the complete game win for the Mountain Lions.
Concord took a 2-0 lead in the second in the nightcap. Lauren Lewis led off with a double and scored when Kristi Benvenuto reached on a fielder's choice. Benvenuto later scored on a triple by Jessica Seymour.
The Rams answered back in the bottom of the frame on a solo blast by Staley to cut the lead to 2-1.
Shepherd tied the game in the third as junior outfielder
Kass Taylor (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) drew a two-out walk and later scored on a double by senior catcher
Shanan Plunkett (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown).
Concord scored a pair of runs in the fourth as Lewis led off with a double and scored on a single by Courtney Purtell. Purtell later scored on a triple by Kristen Rose.
The Rams added a run in the sixth as Snyder led off with a double and scored on a single by senior outfielder
Tayler Schaefer (Dunkirk, Md./Northern).
Concord added an insurance run in the seventh as Lacey McDougall doubled and later scored on a double by Alyssa Morris.
Lewis went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored to lead the Mountain Lions.
Witt, Snyder, and Staley each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Sophomore pitcher
Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (7.0 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 4 Ks, 0 BB) (4-1) took the loss for the Rams. Allie Reid (4-2) gained the win for Concord, while McDougal earned the save,
Shepherd moves to 7-4, 0-2 in MEC action, while Concord improves to 14-8, 4-0. The Rams return to action on Monday when they host UVa-Wise for a noon doubleheader.
