Box Score 2 BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Shepherd University swept West Virginia Wesleyan in MEC baseball doubleheader action at West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday. The Rams recorded an 8-4 win in game one and added a 10-0 victory in the nightcap.
The Rams pounded out 13 hits in the game one victory.
Senior second baseman
Zane Bard (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) went 4-for-4with a two RBI and a run scored, while sophomore outfielder
Jonathan Sarty (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove/William & Mary) went 2-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer to pace the Rams.
Junior shortstop
Tre Porter (Stephens City, Va./Sherando/Potomac State) added a solo blast.
Tre Kerns went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a solo homer to pace the Bobcats.
Junior starter
Sam Crater (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York/Frederick CC) (5.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 6 K, 2 BB) earned the win to improve to 7-2. Daniel Powell (3.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 Ks, 1 BB) (0-2) took the loss for the Bobcats.
Shepherd plated four runs in the second inning to take a 5-0 lead and pull away in the nightcap triumph.
Freshman designated hitter
Daniel Heleine (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville/WVU) belted a solo blast, Sarty had a sacrifice fly, and senior catcher
Spencer Wolfe (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown/USC Aiken) had an RBI-single to key the rally.
Wolfe later added a two-run homer in the sixth.
Wolfe was 2-for-3 with four runs batted in to lead the Rams. Bard added a 3-for-4 effort with a run scored.
Nick Jones went 2-for-3 to lead the Bobcats.
Junior starter
Austin Guy (Leonardtown, Md./St.Mary's Ryken/Wheeling Jesuit) (6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 K, 0 BB) (1-0) picked up the victory.
Bobcat starter Logan Moneypenny (2.0 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 2 Ks, 2 BB) (0-1) took the loss.
Shepherd improves to 25-7, 25-7 in conference play, while West Virginia Wesleyan drops to 13-12, 12-12. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Liberty for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
