Shepherd Softball Sweeps Glenville State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University pounded out 39 hits on the day en route to a sweep of Glenville State in MEC softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Saturday. The Rams gained an 11-0 win in five innings in game one and added an 18-2 victory in five innings in the nightcap.

Sophomore first baseman Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson) went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and four RBI to pace the Rams. Witt tops the Rams with seven round-trippers on the season.

Senior third baseman Savannah Snyder (Elkton, Md./Padua Academy) added a 2-for-3 performance with a two-run blast, while freshman shortstop Courtney Clemons (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) went 2-for-2 and drove in three runs. Five other Rams each added a pair of hits.

Sophomore pitcher Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (5.0 IP, 3 H, 3 K, 1 BB) (8-7) gained the complete game shutout win for the Rams. Miranda Cropp (1.0 IP, 11 H, 9 ER, 0 Ks, 0 BB) took the loss for the Pioneers.

Clemons went 4-for-4 with a double and a triple with four RBI  and two runs scored to lead the Rams in the nightcap.

Witt added a 3-for-4 outing with a pair of doubles and four RBI and two runs scored, while junior outfielder Kass Taylor (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) went 3-for-3 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored.

Cropp went 2-for-2 and Casey Sheaffer had a two-run single to lead Glenville State.

Freshman pitcher Carmen Vivar (Robertsdale, Ala./Robertsdale) (5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 4 Ks, 2 BB) (1-2) gained her first collegiate victory with the complete game win. Chelsey Hager (1.0 IP, 10 H, 9 R, 6 ER, 0 Ks, 0 BB)  took the loss for the Pioneers.

Shepherd improves to 16-15, 9-9 in MEC play, while Glenville State falls to 8-26, 3-15. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they host West Virginia Wesleyan for a noon doubleheader. The start time was moved up an hour due to weather concerns.
