Shepherd Women's Lacrosse Handles Urbana; Clinches MEC Regular Season Title

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore midfielder Haley Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) and freshman midfielder Courtney Matthews (Monrovia, Md/Urbana) each netted four goals to lead Shepherd University to a 21-3 win over Urbana University in MEC women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Sunday. Shepherd clinched the inaugural MEC regular season title with the win.

Junior midfielder Erin Phelan (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) had three goals, while sophomore attacker Colleen Monaghan (Centreville, Md./Queen Anne's County) added a pair.

Senior attacker Georgia Karr (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) recorded a goal and a game-high three assists, while senior attacker/midfielder Kelsey Eagan (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) had a goal and an assist. Eagan reached the 100-goal mark for her career with the tally.

Senior attacker Hayley Roper (California, Md./Leonardtown), junior attacker Hunter Morris (Severna Park, Md./Severn School), junior midfielder Theresa Lang (Severn, Md./Archbishop Spalding), sophomore attacker Brooke Hunley (Monrovia, Md./Linganore),sophomore midfielder Courtney Schwiegerath (Frederick, Md./Oakdale), and sophomore attacker Kiana Miller (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro) each added a goal. Roper scored her first goal since the 2012 season.

Taylor Henderson, Hannah Walters, and Jessica McHenry each had goals for the Blue Knights.

Junior goalkeeper Savannah Shores (Trappe, Md./Easton) recorded  two saves for the Rams, while Paige Waqa posted 16 saves for Urbana.

Shepherd had a 48-9 advantage in shots and a  31-16 edge in ground balls. The Rams had a 21-5 advantage in draw controls.

Shepherd improves to 9-4, 5-0 in conference play, while Urbana falls to 1-12, 1-4. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Lock Haven  at  4 p.m.
