Shepherd took a 4-0 lead in the first inning in game one as senior catcher
Spencer Wolfe (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown/USC Aiken) and freshman designated hitter
Daniel Heleine (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville/WVU) each had a two-run singles.
Senior second baseman
Zane Bard (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) led off with a single and later scored on a single by sophomore outfielder
Jonathan Sarty (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove/William & Mary in the fourth to up the Ram lead to 5-0.
Shepherd added two more runs in the sixth on a two-run blast by Sarty.
Sarty went 4-for-4 and senior outfielder
Matt Wilson (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley/Essex CC) added a 2-for-2 effort to pace the Rams.
Junior starter
Sam Crater (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York/Frederick CC) (7 Ks, 1 BB) (10-2) gained the complete game one-hit victory. Corey Lilly (6.0 IP, 12 H, 7 ER, 5 Ks, 1 BB) (1-9) took the loss for the Falcons.
The Rams took a 2-0 lead in the first in the nightcap behind an RBI-double by Wilson and an RBI-single by junior shortstop
Tre Porter (Stephens City, Va./Sherando/Potomac State).
Shepherd added three more runs in the second with Wilson and Porter each driving in a run.
The Rams plated four more runs in the fourth with a two-run single by Sarty keying the rally.
The Falcons got a pair of runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly from Adam Meeker and an RBI-single by Jacob Whitmore before Shepherd added a run in the bottom of the frame on an RBI-single by freshman
Chase Hoffman (Middletown, Md./Middletown).
Sarty went 3-for-5 and Wilson added a 2-for-3 effort to pace the Rams.
Whitmore had a pair of hits for the Falcons.
Junior pitcher
Jamie Driver (Broad Run, Va./Kettle Run) (5.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 5 Ks, 3 BB) (8-2) earned the win. Falcon starter Ryan Badertscher (1.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 2 Ks, 1 BB) (0-5) took the loss.
Shepherd improves to 34-10, 33-9 in MEC play, while Fairmont State falls to 9-32, 8-30. The two teams return to action on Sunday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Fairfax Field.
