Charleston Knocks Off Shepherd Men

Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. –  Aleksander Kesic scored 14 points to lead six Charleston players in double figures as the Golden Eagles handed  Shepherd University a 76-51 setback in MEC men's basketball action at Charleston on Tuesday night.

Shepherd falls to 8-6 overall, 3-5 in MEC action, while Charleston improves to 7-7, 4-4.

Sophomore guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) led the Rams with a game-high 16 points. Davis hit on 5-of-13 shots with a 2-of-7 effort from beyond the arc. He drained 4-of-5 free throws.

Sophomore guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) added 10 points, while senior forward Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy) and junior guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) each added eight.

Cameron Dozier, Tino DiTrapano, and Justin Coleman each add 11 points for the Golden Eagles. Jevonte Hughes added 10 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Charleston opened the game on a 10-2 run and never trailed in the contest. The Golden Eagles had a 37-25 lead at halftime.

Shepherd shot 33.3 percent (19-57) from the floor with a 28.6 percent (4-14) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 9-of-12 free throws (75 percent). Charleston shot 57.6 percent (34-59) from the floor with a 36.8 percent (7-19) effort from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles hit on 1-of-2 free throws (50 percent).

Charleston had a 37-28 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 13.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Urbana for a 4 p.m. game.
