Shepherd Men Run Past Urbana

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –  Sophomore forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./Saint James School) scored 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while senior forward Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy)  tossed in 20 points to lead Shepherd University a 100-73 win over Urbana in MEC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.

Shepherd improves to 9-6 overall, 4-5 in MEC action, while Urbana falls to 1-13, 0-9.

Carr connected on 8-of-9 shots from the floor with a 2-of-3 effort from three-point range. He was 3-of-7 from the charity stripe. He added a game-high three blocked shots. McTavish hit on 6-of-10 field goals with a 5-of-8 performance from beyond the arc. He was 3-of-3 from the foul line. McTavish added a game-high four steals.

Sophomore guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) added 18 points and six assists, while sophomore guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) had 12 points and a game-high nine assists.

Junior guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) and freshman forward Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) each added 10 points.

Jahmere Howze scored 14 points and Mike Newton tossed in 12 for the Blue Knights. Austin Adams added 10 points
       
Shepherd opened the game on an 11-0 run and never trailed. The Rams had a 46-24 lead at halftime as Davis (13) and McTavish (9) combined for 22 first half points.

Shepherd shot 57.4 percent (35-61) from the floor with a 46.4 percent (13-28) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 17-of-27 free throws (63 percent). Urbana shot 43.5 percent (27-61) from the floor with a 24 percent (6-25) effort from beyond the arc. The Blue Knights hit on 13-of-21 free throws (61.9 percent).

Urbana had a 38-34 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 16 turnovers and committed six.

The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Notre Dame College for a 4 p.m. game.
