Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Torie Purk scored a game-high 25 points to lead Urbana to an 87-75 win over Shepherd University in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday afternoon.
Shepherd falls to 4-11, 3-6 in MEC action, while Urbana improves to 7-6, 6-3.
Junior guard
Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) led the Rams with a season-high 20 points. She hit on 7-of-17 field goals with a 1-of-3 effort from three point range. Mason was 5-of-8 from the foul line. She added six boards and a game-high eight assists.
Junior forward
Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) posted her fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) contributed 16 points and seven assists, while freshman guard
Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) added 10 points and eight boards.
Megan Beachy 21 points and Danie Shafer added 16 for the Blue Knights. Kennedy Boggs added 13 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
The Blue Knights had a 41-39 lead at the break behind 16 first half points from Beachy.
Shepherd opened the third period on an 8-0 run to take a 47-41 lead after a layup by Mason with 8:13 left in the period.
Urbana took the lead for good at 57-56 after a pair of free throw by Shafer with 1:05 left in the third period.
Shepherd cut the Urbana lead to seven at 80-73 after a three-point play by Arden with 1:10 left in regulation, but would get no closer.
The Rams connected on 39.7 percent (31-78) from the floor with a 30.8 percent (4-13) effort from three-point range. Shepherd hit on 56.3 percent of its free throws (9-16). Urbana hit on 50 percent (32-64) of its field goals with a 28.6 percent (6-21) effort from beyond the arc. The Blue Knights were successful on 85 percent (17-20) of their free throws.
Urbana had a 44-39 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 13 turnovers and committed 19.
The Rams return to action on Monday when they host Notre Dame for a 2 p.m. contest.
