Shepherd Men Outlasted by Notre Dame

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Tyree Gaiter scored 23 of his game-high 32 points in the second half to lead Notre Dame College to a 91-83 win over Shepherd University n MEC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday.

Gaiter hit on 6-of-18 field goals with a 2-of-7 effort from three-point range. He drained 18-of-19 free throws.
Sophomore forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) led the Rams with 28 points and nine rebounds. He hit in 10-of-17 field goals with a 2-of-6 performance from beyond the arc. Carr was 6-of-7 from the foul line.

Senior forward Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Presbyterian) added 22 points behind a 6-of-11 effort from three point range. Sophomore guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School)added 16 points, while sophomore guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) chipped in with nine points and a team-high six assists.

Will Vorhees added 25 points and Kyaute Taylor had 21 for the Falcons.

Notre Dame used a 13-5 run midway in the first half to open up a 16-point lead and took a 47-32 advantage into the break.

Shepherd trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half. The Ram rallied to within a point at 70-69 after a jumper by Mike Reed (Abingdon, Md./Patterson Mill) with 8:26 left in regulation. Notre Dame proceeded on a 6-0 run on six Gaitrer free throws to take a 76-69 lead with 7:31 remaining.

Shepherd cut the lead to within three points at 78-75 on a three-pointer by McTavish with 5:03 left, but were unable to get any closer.

Shepherd hit on 29-of-63 field goals (46 percent) with a 12-of-33 (36.4 percent) effort from three-point range. The Rams drained 13-of-16 free throws (81.3 percent. Notre Dame connected on 28-of-53 field goals (52.8 percent) with an 8-of-21 effort (38.1 percent) from beyond the arc. The Falcons were 27-of-35 from the foul line (77.1 percent).

Notre Dame had a 34-28 edge on the boards. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 13.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Fairmont State for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
