Shepherd Men Handle Glenville State

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior forward Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Presbyterian) scored a game-high 24 points to lead Shepherd University (10-8, 5-7 MEC) to a 100-70 win over Glenville State (6-12, 3-9 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Tuesday night.

McTavish hit on 8-of-13 field goals with a 6-of-11 effort from three-point range. He was 2-of-2 from the foul line. McTavish grabbed six rebounds and a pair of assists.

Junior guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) added  a season-high 21 points and a game and career-high 12 assists. Sophomore forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./Saint James School) also posted a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) added 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while sophomore guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) tossed in 11 points.

Sedric Nady and Brett Morris each had 17 points for the Pioneers. Jalon Plummer was also in double figures with 10 points.

Shepherd had a 59-38 lead at halftime as McTavish (18) and Muhammad (17) combined for 35 first half points.

After Glenville State cut the lead to 75-59 after a layup by Nady with 7:31 left to play, Shepherd went on a 13-6 run to open up a 25-point lead at 88-63 with 4:00 remaining. Davis, Roman, and McTavish each drained a three-pointer during the run.

Shepherd shot 56.9 percent (37-65) from the floor with a 53.3 percent (16-30) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 10-of-12 free throws (83.3 percent). Glenville State shot 42.9 percent (27-63) from the floor with a 22.9 percent (8-35) effort from beyond the arc. The Pioneers hit on 8-of-18 free throws (44.4 percent).

Shepherd had a 41-26 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced seven turnovers and committed 10.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to UVa-Wise for a 7:30 p.m. game.
