Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Presbyterian) scored 19 points and grabbed 10 points to lead Shepherd University (11-8, 6-7 MEC) to an 85-82 win over UVa-Wise (3-16, 1-12 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at UVa-Wise on Thursday night.
McTavish hit on 8-of-13 field goals with a 3-of-9 effort from three-point range. He was 0-of-1 from the foul line.
Junior guard
Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) added 17 points, while sophomore forward
AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./Saint James School) also posted a double-double with 14 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
Sophomore guard
Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) also posted a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 assists. Sophomore guard
Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) tossed in 12 points.

Matt Day had game-highs of 29 points and 13 rebounds for the Cavaliers. Philip Owens II added 28 points and eight assists.
Shepherd had a 40-38 lead at halftime as McTavish (10 points) and Davis (9) paced the Rams in the first half.
The game featured 17 lead changes and seven ties.
Shepherd took the lead for good at 83-80 on a three-pointer by McTavish with 2:28 remaining. Roman sunk a pair of free throws with 14 seconds left and Owens hit a layup in the final seconds to complete the scoring.
Shepherd shot 49 percent (34-69) from the floor with a 44 percent (12-27) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 5-of-8 free throws (53 percent). UVa-Wise shot 46 percent (30-65) from the floor with a 31 percent (9-29) effort from beyond the arc. The Cavaliers hit on 13-of-16 free throws (81 percent).
Shepherd had a 41-35 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced eight turnovers and committed eight.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Concord for a 4 p.m. game.
