Box Score WISE, Va. – Alle Moore scored a game-high 25 points to lead UVa-Wise (8-9, 4-9 MEC) to a 102-63 win over Shepherd University (5-14, 4-9 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at UVa-Wise on Thursday.
Junior guard
Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) led the Rams with 18 points. Mason hit on 8-of-18 field goal attempts with a 2-of-3 performance from the foul line. She added four assists.
Junior forward
Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) added 15 points and three steals, while sophomore guard
Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) added 12 points and four assists.
Kayla Carey added 18 points for the Cavaliers. Blair Harding added 14 points, while Mackenzie Cluesman contributed 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
UVa-Wise opened the game on a 19-6 run and Shepherd was unable to recover. Wise had a 57-33 lead at the break.
The Rams connected on 39.1 percent (27-69) from the floor with a 28.6 percent (2-7) performance from three-point range. Shepherd hit on 53.8 percent of its free throws (7-13). UVa-Wise hit on 55.7 percent (39-70) of its field goals with a 35 percent (7-20) effort from beyond the arc. The Cavaliers were successful on 85 percent (17-20) of their free throws.
UVa-Wise had a 50-28 edge in rebounding. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 13.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Concord for a 2 p.m. contest.
