Concord Tops Shepherd Men

Box Score ATHENS, W.Va. – Jametrius Wade scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Concord (14-6, 9-5 MEC) to a 79-66 win over Shepherd University (11-9, 6-8 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at Concord on Saturday.

Senior forward Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Presbyterian) led the Rams with 17 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Sophomore guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) added 15 points, a team-high nine boards, a game-high four steals, and three assists. Junior guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) chipped in with 13 points, while sophomore guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) had eight.

Terry Hopewell had 13 points and grabbed a game-high 19 rebounds for the Mountain Lions. Rob Reed tossed in 16 points, while Michael Sanchez and  Aaron Miller each had 10.

Shepherd had a 34-31 lead at halftime.

Concord rallied in the second half and took a double digit lead at 62-51 after a layup by Wade with 7:19 remaining. The Mountain Lions led by as many as 17 points in the second half and pulled away for the victory.

Shepherd shot 36.4 percent (24-66) from the floor with a 23.8 percent (5-21) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 10-of-11 free throws (90.9 percent). Concord shot 41 percent (25-61) from the floor with a 23.8 percent (5-21) effort from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions hit on 24-of-32 free throws (75 percent).

Concord had a 50-31 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 14 turnovers and committed 12.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Wheeling Jesuit for a 7:30 p.m. game.
