Arden Leads Shepherd Women Past Concord

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  – Sophomore guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a game and season-high 29 points to lead Shepherd University to a 75-72 win over Concord in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday night.

Shepherd improves to 3-8, 2-3 in MEC action, while Concord falls to 3-7, 2-3.

Arden connected on 8-of-15 field goals with a 2-of-4 effort from three-point range. She added an 11-of-11 effort from the foul line.

Junior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) added 14 points. Sophomore guard Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) came off the bench to post a double-double with career highs of 11 points and 10 rebounds.She also blocked a pair of shots.

Junior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) had six points, six rebounds, and game-highs of seven assists and three blocked shots. Mason added a pair of steals.

Kylie Molisee had 23 points and 16 rebounds to lead Concord. Olivia Morgan added 12 points, while Emily Boothe had 10.

The game featured eight lead changes and seven ties.

Concord took a 66-65 advantage on a three-pointer by Boothe with 5:14 left in the game. Shepherd took the lead for good at 67-66 on a jumper by McKinney with 5:00 left. Concord rallied to within a point at 71-70 with 2:06 remaining, but the Rams closed the game on a 4-2 run on a jumper and a pair of free throws by Arden to seal the win.

Shepherd held a 44-41 lead at halftime behind 18 first half points from Arden.

The Rams connected on 40 percent (24-60) from the floor with a 25 percent (3-12) effort from three-point range. Shepherd hit on 72.7percent of its free throws (24-33). Concord hit on 46 percent (29-63) of its field goals with a 36.4 percent (4-11) effort from beyond the arc. The Mountain Lions connected on 90.9 percent (10-11) of their free throws.

Concord had a 42-32 advantage in rebounding. Shepherd forced 23 turnovers and committed 13.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host UVa-Wise for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
