SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior quarterback
Jeff Ziemba (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) completed 27-of-34 passes for 334 yards and three touchdowns to lead Shepherd University (5-0, 5-0 MEC) to a 38-7 win over Glenville State (3-3, 3-3 MEC) in MEC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
The Rams took a 7-0 lead when Ziemba teamed with redshirt-freshman running back
Deonte Glover (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) on a 14-yard scoring pass with 6:14 left in the first quarter. Junior kicker
Zach Wise (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) added the extra point.
The Rams took a 10-0 lead into the break as Wise connected on a 36-yard field goal with seven seconds remaining in the first half.
Dante Roberts teamed with Dante Absher 45-yard scoring pass for the Pioneers with 14:54 left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 10-7.
Freshman running back
Brandon Hlavach (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) scored on a four-yard run with 9:10 left in the third quarter to up the Shepherd lead to 17-7.
Ziemba teamed with senior wide receiver
Billy Brown (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) on an 11-yard scoring strike with 13:18 left in the fourth quarter.
Ziemba and Brown teamed on a 53-yard scoring pass on a flea-flicker with 11:04 left in the game to give the Rams a 31-7 advantage.
Glover scored on a six-yard run with 6:20 remaining to close out the scoring.
Roberts completed 12-of-32 passes for 114 yards and a score.
Brown led the Shepherd receivers with seven catches for 117 yards. Sophomore wide receiver
Ryan Feiss (Forest Hill, Md./North Hartford) added nine receptions for 90 yards for the Rams. Absher had a pair of catches for 50 yards to pace the Pioneers.
Glover rushed for 61 yards on eight carries while Hlavach added 59 yards on 12 games. Dom Gibson had seven carries for 70 yards to lead Glenville State.
Shepherd amassed 489 yards of total offense, while Glenville State totaled 235.
Senior inside linebacker
Octavius Thomas (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach) posted a team-high nine tackles (six solo) to lead the Shepherd defense. Earon Settles recorded a game-high 16 tackles (12 solo) to pace the Pioneers.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Virginia State for a 1 p.m. contest.
Notes: Jeff Ziemba (69) had three touchdown pass and passed Joel Gordon (66, 1999-02) to become Shepherd's all-time leader … Ziemba and Brown teamed on a pair of scoring passes and moved past Joel Gordon-Jason Dirting (21) as Shepherd's all-time passing touchdown duo with 23 … Brown had 100 receiving yards or more for the 14th time in his career.
Octavius Thomas led the Rams with nine tackles.
