Shepherd Men Edge East Stroudsburg

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) drained a three-pointer with 22 seconds left in regulation to give the Rams the lead for good as Shepherd University gained a 72-69 win over East Stroudsburg in men's basketball action at the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge at the Butcher Center on Friday night.

Junior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) scored a team-high 16 points, while Carr added 14.

Sophomore forward Gavin McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Bridgton Academy) added 13 points and sophomore forward Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Senior guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) contributed nine points and a game-high 11 assists.

Rasheed Moore had 11 points and nine boards to pace the Warriors. Chris Bing had 11 points and eight rebounds.

Carr's triple with 22 seconds left game the Rams a 71-69 lead. McTavish hit 1-of-2 free throws with nine second left ,and a three-point attempt by Kitt Najee Walls at the buzzer went awry.

Shepherd hit on 26-of-58 field goals (44.8 percent) with a 6-of-17 (38.6 percent) effort from three-point range. The Rams drained 14-of-23 free throws (60.9 percent).

East Stroudsburg connected on 22-of-57 field goals (38.6 percent) with a 9-of-26 effort (34.6 percent) from beyond the arc. The Warriors were 16-of-22 from the foul line (72.7 percent).

East Stroudsburg had a 40-36 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 15 turnovers and committed 10.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Slippery Rock at 7 p.m. in final day action of the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge.
