Slippery Rock Holds Off Shepherd Men

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Khyree Wooten hit a jumper with three seconds left in regulation to lift Slippery Rock (1-1) to a 57-55 win over Shepherd University (1-1) in men's basketball action at the Clarion Hotel Conference Challenge at the Butcher Center on Saturday night.

Senior guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) and junior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) each scored a game-high 17 points for the Rams.

Muhammad hit 3-of-13 field goals with an 11-of-16 effort from the charity stripe. Davis was 5-of-9 from the floor with a 4-of-7 effort from beyond the arc. He hit 3-of-5 free throws.

Junior guard Skyler Roman Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) contributed eight points, six assists, and five boards.

Wooten led The Rock with 15 points. Naquil Jones added 11 points, while George Chase added nine points and 12 rebounds.

Davis hit a layup with 22 seconds left to tie the game at 55-55 and set the stage for Wooten's game-winner.
Shepherd hit on 14-of-47 field goals (29.8 percent) with a 5-of-17 (29.4 percent) effort from three-point range. The Rams drained 22-of-32 free throws (68.8 percent).

Slippery Rock connected on 22-of-52 field goals (40.4 percent) with a 2-of-12 effort (16.7 percent) from beyond the arc. The Rock was 13-of-18 from the foul line (72.2 percent).

Slippery Rock had a 39-31 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 10 turnovers and committed just six.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Glenville State at 6 p.m.
