Shepherd Women Edged by Shaw

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Bianca Maxwell scored 15 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Shaw University (1-1) to an 83-79 win over Shepherd University (1-1) in final day play of the Conference Challenge in women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.

Junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) led the Rams with 18 points. Tibbs hit on 8-of-16 shots with a 1-of-5 effort from three-point range. She connected on 1-of-2 free throws.

Junior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) tossed in 14 points, while senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) contributed 13 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds.

Freshman guard Lauren Reed (Winchester, Va./Millbrook) had 12 points, while senior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) recorded 11 points and nine rebounds.

Falecia Cabral and Stephanie Custodio each had 15 points for the Bears. Chelsea Long chipped in with 12 points.

Shepherd shot 40.5 percent (32-79) from the floor with a 36.4 percent effort (8-22) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 58.3 percent (7-12) from the charity stripe.

Shaw connected on 50 percent (31-62) from the floor with a 33.3 percent (6-18) performance from beyond the arc. The Bears hit on 75 percent (15-20) of their free throws.

Shaw had a 45-37 edge on the boards. Shepherd forced 22 turnovers and committed 13.

The Rams return to action next Saturday when they host Glenville State for a 2 p.m. contest.
