Arden Reaches 1,000-Point Mark; Shepherd Women Fall at Wesleyan

Box Score BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Junior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a team-high 17 points and went over 1,000 points for her career, but West Virginia Wesleyan (2-1, 2-0 MEC) pulled away for a 78-63 win over Shepherd University (2-3, 0-2 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at West Virginia Wesleyan on Monday.

Arden had a 5-of-11 effort from the floor with a 3-of-5 performance from three-point range. She was 4-for-4 from the foul line. She added four rebounds and three assists. Arden now has 1,014 career points.

Senior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) added 13 points and a game-high six assists, while senior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) and junior guard Tiffany McKinney (Edgewater, Md./South River/Anne Arundel CC) each contributed eight points.

Mari Stewart had 25 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Bobcats. Lana Long added 20 points, while Rachel Vandertoolen and Tara Goldman each tossed in 13.

The Rams rallied from a 44-25 halftime deficit as they posted a 25-8 third period to cut the lead to 52-50.

Shepherd took the lead at 53-52 after a Mason layup with 9:25 left and later gained a 56-54 advantage on a three-pointer by senior guard Sammy Bane (Chantilly, Va./Middleburg Academy) with 8:16 left.

The Bobcats retook the lead at 57-56 on a trey by Vandertoolen with 7:58 left and never relinquished it.

Shepherd shot 43.1 percent (25-58) from the floor with a 28.6 percent effort (4-14) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 64.3 percent (9-14) from the charity stripe.

West Virginia Wesleyan connected on 50.8 percent (30-59) from the floor with a 33.3 percent (2-6) performance from beyond the arc. The Bobcats hit on 80 percent (16-20) of their free throws.

Wesleyan had a 43-25 advantage in rebounds. Shepherd forced 19 turnovers and committed 13.

The Rams return to action on Nov. 28 when they travel to Virginia Union for a 6 p.m. contest.
