Shepherd Volleyball Knocks Off West Virginia Wesleyan

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (9-19, 4-10 MEC) recorded a 3-0 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan (9-19, 4-10 MEC) in MEC volleyball action at the Butcher Center on Senior Night on Friday night. The Rams posted a 25-16, 25-16, 25-22 win.

Freshman outside hitter Peyton Lindblad (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) and freshman outside hitter Jaila Bell (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) each had nine kills to pace the Rams. Senior outside hitter/right side Grace Simmons (Centreville, Va./Centreville) recorded eight kills with a .538 attack percentage, and junior outside hitter Amanda Snowden (Hagerstown, Md./Smithsburg) also had eight kills.

Freshman setter Jessica Karcz Westminster, Md./Westminster) (16) and sophomore setter Becca Kern (Martinsburg, W.Va./Musselman) (20) teamed to register 36 assists. Karcz also added eight digs. Junior libero Kelsey Anderson (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) conrtibuted a team-high 11 digs.

Hannah King recorded 12 kills, while Paulina Nottingham added 41 assists and five digs to pace the Bobcats. Lexi Walsh had a match-high 16 digs.

Trailing 9-7 in the first set, Shepherd proceeded on an 11-2 run to take an 18-11 lead en route to a 25-16 first set victory. The Rams only trailed twice in the final two sets.

The Rams conclude their home schedule on Saturday when they face Salem International at 3 p.m. and Bowie State at 8 p.m.

Notes: The Rams honored seniors Grace Simmons and Shelby Wallace in a pre-game ceremony … Shepherd snapped a six match losing skid with the victory … the Rams posted their fifth three set win of the season.
