Shepherd Men Fall to Alderson Broaddus

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sam Sanders and Exzavier Cooper each scored 16 points to lead Alderson Broaddus (2-7) to a 74-66 win over Shepherd University (4-4) in non-conference men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Friday night.

Junior guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) scored a game-high 26 points to pace the Rams. He hit on 8-of-17 field goals with a 6-of-14 effort from three-point range. Davis was 4-of-4 from the foul line.

Junior forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./St. James School) added 18 points, while junior guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) added nine points and game highs of seven rebounds and six assists.

Malik Bocook and Jordan Haywood each added 12 points for the Battlers. Haywood tied Roman for game-high assists honors with six.

Alderson Broaddus closed the first half on a 5-0 run to take a 31-25 lead into the break.

Shepherd rallied late on a back-to-back three-pointers by Davis to get to within six points at 66-60 with 3:09 left, but would get no closer.

Shepherd hit on 23-of-53 field goals (43.4 percent) with a 7-of-23 (30.4 percent) effort from three-point range. The Rams had a 13-of-18 effort (72.2 percent) from the foul line.

Alderson Broaddus connected on 26-of-49 field goals (53.1 percent) with an 8-of-19 effort (42.1 percent) from beyond the arc. The Battlers were 14-of-17 from the foul line (82.4 percent).

Rebounding was even at 28-all. The Rams forced 17 turnovers and committed 18.

The Rams return to action on Monday when they travel to 22nd-ranked Shippensburg for a 7 p.m. game.
