Shepherd Women Fall to Wheeling Jesuit

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Monica Burns scored 20 points and Jaana Motton added 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead Wheeling Jesuit (7-1, 3-0 MEC) to a 69-57 win over Shepherd University (3-5, 1-3 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.

Junior guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Rams. Arden hit on 8-of-14 field goals with a 2-of-2 effort from three point range. She was 6-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Senior guard Cara Mason added 15 points, six assists, and five rebounds, while junior guard Kayla Tibbs (Leesburg, Va./Heritage) was also in double figures with 10 points.

Mariah Callen added 15 points for the Cardinals.

Shepherd shot 45 percent (27-60) from the floor with a 60 percent effort (6-10) from three-point range for the game. The Rams shot 81.8 percent (9-11) from the charity stripe.

Wheeling Jesuit connected on 52.3 percent (24-44) from the floor with a 41.7 percent (5-12) performance from beyond the arc. The Cardinals hit on 87.1 percent (27-31) of their free throws.

Wheeling Jesuit had a 32-20 edge in rebounds. Shepherd forced 20 turnovers and committed 14.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Goldey-Beacom for a 1 p.m. contest.
