Urbana Edges Shepherd Women

Box Score URBANA, Ohio –  Sophomore guard Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) scored a career-high 34 points, but Urbana (10-12, 9-9 MEC) held on for a 97-92 win over Shepherd University (5-19, 4-14 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at Urbana on Saturday.

Arden connected on 11-of-22 field goals with a 6-of-9 effort from three-point range. She was 6-of-6 from the foul line.

Junior forward Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) and junior guard Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) each recorded double-doubles for the Rams. Myers had 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds, while Mason fired in a season-high 22 points and tied a career high with 11 assists.

Junior forward Hailey Brown (Annandale, Va./Annandale) contributed a career-high 13 points and seven boards.

Kennedy Boggs had 31 points and seven assists to pace the Blue Knights. Danie Shafer added 22 points, while Jazmyn Haley had 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Urbana had a 42-38 advantage at halftime.

The Blue Knights led by as many as 16 points at 82-66 after a jumper by Erin Morrow with 6:23 left in the fourth period. Shepherd went on a 20-8 run to cut the deficit to four points at 90-86 after a jumper by Myers with 1:45 remaining. Arden and Mason each had six points to fuel the run.

Shafer hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to cap the win for the Blue Knights.

The Rams connected on 42 percent (37-88) from the floor with a 43.8 percent (7-16) performance from three-point range. Shepherd hit on 61.1 percent of its free throws (11-18). Urbana hit on 52.9 percent (36-68) of its field goals with a 31.6 percent (6-19) effort from beyond the arc. The Blue Knights drained 79.2 percent (19-24) of their free throws.

Urbana had a 47-40 rebounding edge. Shepherd forced 17 turnovers and committed eight.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host University of Charleston for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
