Box Score GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Shepherd University improved to 2-0 with a 6-2 win over Ursuline (2-5) in a late contest in first day softball action of the Pioneer Classic.
Shepherd broke open a 2-2 tie with three runs in the sixth inning. Sophomore catcher Molly Staley (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) had an RBI-single and freshman first baseman Connor Gilligan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) added a two-run double to highlight the rally.
The Rams added another run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly from freshman pinch hitter Tamera Confer (Chesapeake, Va./Atlantic Shores Christian School)
Sophomore outfielder Courtney Clemons (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored to lead the Rams.
Brigitte Snow went 2-for-3 with an RBI to pace Ursuline.
Sophomore designated player Kaitlin Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run) (7.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 11 Ks, 2 BB) (1-0) tossed a complete-game victory. Ursuline reliever Gina Rosshirt (1-2) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Sunday when they face Kutztown at 3 p.m. and Tusculum at 5 p.m. in final day action of the Pioneer Classic.
