Shepherd Men Downed by #4 Wheeling Jesuit

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. –  Justin Fritts scored 21 points to lead five players in double figures as fourth-ranked Wheeling Jesuit (21-1, 14-1 MEC) recorded an 82-74 win over Shepherd University (11-10, 6-9 MEC) in MEC men's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Thursday night.

Sophomore guard Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) led the Rams with a game-high 22 points. He was 6-of-10 from the floor with a 3-of-7 effort from three-point range. Davis was 7-of-7 from the foul line. He added six boards.

Sophomore guard Skyler Roman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) added 14 points and five assists, while junior guard Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) had 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Senior forward Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Presbyterian) had 13 points and five rebounds, while sophomore forward AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./Saint James School) tosssed in 10 points and grabbed  a game-high nine rebounds.

Eric Siefert added 17 points for the Cardinals. Haywood Highsmith had 14 points, Pat Moseh had 12, while Kyle Ritz chipped in with 10.
 
Wheeling Jesuit had a 46-33 lead at halftime behind 11 first half points from Siefert. The Cardinals closed the half on an 11-0 run.

The Mountain Lions led by as many as 16 points in the second half but Shepherd rallied to within eight points at 75-67 after a three-point play by Davis with 3:31 left.

Wheeling Jesuit closed the game on a 7-7 run to clinch the win.

Shepherd shot 43.3 percent (26-60) from the floor with a 38.5 percent (10-26) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 12-of-13 free throws (92.3 percent). Wheeling Jesuit shot 49.2 percent (31-63) from the floor with a 30.8 percent (8-26) effort from beyond the arc. The Cardinals connected on 12-of-18 free throws (66.7 percent).

Shepherd had a 37-33 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced 13 turnovers and committed 19.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host sixth-ranked West Liberty for a 4 p.m. game.
