Shepherd Baseball Drops Pair at #11 Mount Olive

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Shepherd University (0-2) dropped a pair of games to 11th-ranked Mount Olive in baseball doubleheader action at Mount Olive (3-1) on Saturday. The Trojans gained a 9-3 win in game one and added a 10-4 triumph in the nightcap.

Joe Koehler, Zac Orrison, and David Mayo each drove in a pair of runs to lead the Trojans in game one.

Senior designated hitter Sam Crater (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York/Frederick CC) and junior outfielder JJ Sarty (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove/William & Mary) both had a pair of hits to lead the Rams.

Junior outfielder Ron Farley (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall/Delaware State) went 1-for-3 with an RBI-double and a run scored, while junior first baseman Brandon Kirk (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West/Mercer CC) was 1-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI-single

Bruce Zimmerman (1-0) (6.0 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 5 Ks, 2 BB) gained the win for Mount Olive. Senior pitcher Jamie Driver (Broad Run, Va./Kettle Run) (0-1) (2.0 IP, 8 R, 7 ER, 6 H, 2 Ks, 6 BB) took the loss for the Rams. Shepherd got a solid performance from freshman reliever AJ Stead (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) (6.0 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 7 Ks, 2 BB).

Mount Olive plated three runs in the first and second innings en route to the nightcap win.

Mayo went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Orrison added a 1-for-3 effort with four runs scored to lead the Trojans.

Freshman designated hitter Christian Hamel (Pasadena, Md./IMG Academy) went 2-for-4 with an RBI-single and a run scored to pace the Rams in the nightcap.

Sarty added a solo blast, while junior catcher Tyler Thomas (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) had a 1-for-2 outing with an RBI-single.

Austin Hutchison (1-0) (5.0 IP, 3 R 2 ER, 4 H, 2 Ks, 2 BB) earned the win for Mount Olive. Junior pitcher John Bentley (Stephens City, Va./Sherando) (0-1) (5.0 IP, 7 R, 4 ER, 4 H, 2 Ks, 3 BB) took the loss.

The two teams are slated to return to action on Sunday when they play a single game at 1 p.m.
