Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Kierra Simpson scored 18 points and grabbed 25 rebounds to lead 20th-ranked West Liberty (19-3, 14-2 MEC) to a 95-69 win over Shepherd University (5-17, 4-12 MEC) in MEC women's basketball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday.
Simpson hit on 7-of-15 field goals with a 4-of-8 effort from the foul line. She added a game-high five blocked shots.
Freshman guard
Kristen Nunn (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) led the Rams with 15 points. She was 6-of-16 from the floor with a 1-of-5 effort from three-point range. Nunn was 2-of-4 from the foul line.
Junior forward
Liz Myers (York, Pa./Eastern York) posted her sixth double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard
Morgan Arden (Hanover, Pa./Spring Grove) and freshman guard
Kari Lankford (York, Pa./West York Area) each added 10 points, while junior guard
Cara Mason (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) contributed eight points and a team-high five assists.
Johnie Olkosky led the Hilltoppers with 21 points. Liz Flowers added 19, while Jasmin Kiley tossed in 15. Kailee Howe had seven points and 10 assists.
West Liberty had a 40-32 lead at halftime.
The Hilltoppers opened up the fourth quarter on a 15-2 run to gain an 80-54 advantage and take control of the contest.
The Rams connected on 34.6 percent (27-78) from the floor with a 15.8 percent (3-19) performance from three-point range. Shepherd hit on 70.6 percent of its free throws (12-17). West Liberty hit on 50 percent (35-70) of its field goals with a 56 percent (14-25) effort from beyond the arc. The Hilltoppers were successful on 55 percent (11-20) of their free throws.
West Liberty had a 50-42 edge in rebounding. Shepherd forced 12 turnovers and committed 10.
The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Notre Dame for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
Kari Lankford had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Cara Mason had eight points and five assists.
