Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sedric Nady scored a game-high 41 points to lead Glenville State to an 89-80 win over Shepherd University in first round action of the MEC Men's Basketball Tournament at the Butcher Center on Tuesday night.
Nady connected on 12-of-24 field goal attempts with a 7-of-13 effort from three point range. He was 10-of-10 from the foul line.
Sophomore guard
Steffen Davis (Accokeek, Md./Maret School) led the Rams with 22 points as he hit on 6-of-12 field goals with a 4-of-9 performance from beyond the arc. He sunk 6-of-8 free throws.
Senior forward
Ryan McTavish (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll/Presbyterian) added 15 points and four boards, while freshman forward
Winston Burgess (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) had 13 points and eight rebounds.
Junior guard
Naim Muhammad (Waldorf, Md./North Point) had 13 points, seven rebounds, and a game-high five assists, while sophomore forward
AJ Carr (Fairfax, Va./Saint James School) contributed 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Brett Morris had 18 points and Brien Winston added 10 for the Pioneers.
Shepherd had a 41-39 lead at halftime behind 11 first half points from Carr.
Glenville led by as many as 12 points in the second half, but Shepherd rallied to within five points at 83-78 after a pair of free throws by Muhammad with 1:52 remaining.
The Pioneers hit 6-of-6 free throws down the stretch to clinch the victory.
Shepherd shot 46 percent (29-63) from the floor with a 38.1 percent (8-21) performance from three-point range. The Rams drained 14-of-17 free throws (82.4 percent). Glenville State shot 44.4 percent (28-63) from the floor with a 37.8 percent (14-37) effort from beyond the arc. The Pioneers sunk 19-of-21 free throws (90.5 percent).
Shepherd had a 36-35 advantage on the boards. The Rams forced four turnovers and committed nine.
Shepherd completes its season at 15-14. Glenville State (11-18) advances to face top-seeded West Liberty in quarterfinal action of the MEC Tournament on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Charleston Civic Center.
