Box Score 2 SALEM, Va. – Shepherd University (5-5) split a pair of games in final day softball action of the Salem Tournament on Sunday. The Rams dropped a 6-5 decision to Mansfield (8-9) in the early game and posted an 8-0 win over Tiffin (9-7) in six innings in a later contest.
The Rams used a seven-hit attack en route to the win over Tiffin.
Junior first baseman
Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson) went 1-for-2 with a two-run double and a run scored, while junior outfielder
Jessica Robinson (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) added a 2-for-3 performance with a solo homer and two runs scored to pace the Rams.
Sophomore outfielder
Courtney Clemons (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) added a pair of hits with an RBI and a run scored. Freshman second baseman
Morgan Cox (Halifax, Pa./ Halifax) went 1-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs.
Allyson Rock had two hits for the Dragons.
Sophomore pitcher Kaitlyn Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run) (6.0 IP, 4 H, 3 Ks, 3 BB) (3-2) tossed a complete-game victory. Tiffin starter Sarah Brown (0.1 IP, 5 R, 3 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (1-3) took the loss.
Ashley Inman helped her own cause with a 2-for-4 effort with a three-run homer and an RBI-double to lead Mansfield to a 6-5 win over the Rams.
Freshman outfielder
Connor Gilligan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) went 3-for-3 with a two-run triple and an RBI-single to lead the Rams. Clemons added a 2-for-3 effort with three runs scored.
Junior pitcher
Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (0.2 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 K, 0 BB) (2-3) took the loss for the Rams. Inman (7.0 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 Ks, 4 BB) (4-5) gained the victory for the Mountaineers.
The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Glenville State for a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
