Shepherd Softball Splits with Millersville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Shepherd University (8-6) split with Millersville (10-8) in non-conference softball doubleheader action at Millersville on Thursday. The Rams gained a 13-0 win in six innings in game one, while the Marauders rallied for a 6-4 win in the nightcap.

The Rams used a season-high 18-hit attack en route to the game one win.

Sophomore designated player Kaitlyn Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run) went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored.

Junior catcher Molly Staley (Port Deposit, Md./Perryville) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, while freshman outfielder Connor Gilligan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored.  Sophomore outfielder Courtney Clemons (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) added a 2-for-4 effort with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Junior first baseman Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson) and junior outfielder Paige Buckworth (Elkton, Md./North East) each added a pair of hits

Mandy Hammond went 2-for-3 to lead the Marauders.

Junior pitcher Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (6.0 IP, 5 H, 5 Ks, 1 BB) (3-3) gained the shutout victory for the Rams. Brianna Andraos (5.2 IP, 18 H, 13 R 12 ER 2Ks, 3 BB) (4-6) took the loss for the Marauders.

Brittany Smith went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs to lead a 14-hit attack for the Marauders in the nightcap.

Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run homer by Munda.

Millersville tied the game in the third on a two-run double by Smith.

Shepherd took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on an RBI-double by Buckworth, but Millersville answered back with three runs in the bottom of the frame to take a 5-3 advantage. Cassidy Pinchorski hit a solo homer, while Smith and Kelsey Campbell each added RBI-singles.

Shepherd plated a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Clemons, but Millersville added a run in the sixth and held on for the win.

Munda (6.0 IP, 14 H, 6 ER, 5Ks 0 BB) (5-2) took the loss for the Rams. Pinchorski (7.0 IP, 5H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 Ks, 2 BB) (6-2) gained the win for Millersville.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Urbana for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
