Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (13-8, 7-2) dropped a pair of games to #12 West Virginia Wesleyan (29-3, 11-1) in MEC softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Wednesday. West Virginia Wesleyan posted a 3-0 victory in game one and added a 4-0 win in the nightcap.
The Bobcats plated all three of their runs in the first inning in game one on a three-run double by Rebekah Honce.
Honce went 2-for-4 to pace the Bobcats.
Junior outfielder Paige Buckworth (Elkton, Md./North East) had a 2-for-3 outing to lead the Rams.
Hannah Vet (7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 K, 0 BB) (11-1) gained the shutout win for the Bobcats .Sophomore pitcher Kaitlin Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run/Francis Marion) (7.0 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 4 Ks, 2 BB) (8-3) took the loss for the Rams.
Wesleyan pitcher Sakaya Foley (7.0 IP, 5 Ks, 1 BB) (10-1) tossed a no-hitter in the nightcap. Munda (1.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 Ks, 0 BB) (8-4) took the loss for Shepherd.
The Bobcats scored two runs in the second on two-run double by Ashley Hurley.
Wesleyan added two more runs in the fourth behind RBI-singles from Anna Eggleston and Brooklyn Waddell.
Shepherd reached base twice in the contest. Junior first baseman Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson) reached on an error in the fourth and sophomore outfielder Jessica Robinson (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) walked in the sixth.
Krista Waggoner went 3-for-4 with a run scored to lead the Bobcats.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Notre Dame for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
