Strong Second Half Lifts #10 Mercyhurst Past Shepherd Women's Lacrosse

Box Score SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va.  – Kristin Anderson scored six goals and Carly Zimmerman added five to lead 10th-ranked Mercyhurst (3-1) to a 21-10 win over Shepherd University (0-4) in women's lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Wednesday.

Senior midfielder/attacker Erin Phelan (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) scored four goals to lead the Rams. Junior attacker Alex Green (Boonsboro, Md./Boonsboro) netted a pair of goals, while junior midfielder Haley Price (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty), junior attacker Brooke Hunley (Monrovia, Md./Linganore), sophomore midfielder Courtney Matthews (Monrovia, Md./Urbana), and sophomore midfielder Sarah Wendt (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) each added single goals for the Rams.

Emily Gebhardt and Janelle Williams each had a pair of goals for the Lakers.

Senior netminder Savannah Shores (Trappe, Md./Easton) tied a Shepherd single game mark for the second time this season with 18 saves for the Rams. Gabby Gravino had three saves for the Lakers.

Mercyhurst had a 10-7 advantage at halftime. The Lakers outscored the Rams, 11-3, in the second half to pull away.

Mercyhurst had a 23-17 edge in ground balls and a 25-7 advantage in draw controls. The Lakers had a 47-21 advantage in shots.

Shepherd was 13-of-23 in clears, while Mercyhurst was 11-of-13.

The Rams return to action on Thursday when they host Wilmington (Del.) for a 4 p.m. match.
