Box Score 2 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University (29-12) swept Lock Haven (28-14) in non-conference softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Monday. Shepherd recorded a 6-2 win in in game one and added a 2-1 triumph in the nightcap.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead in game one in the third inning as freshman first baseman
Connor Gilligan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee)doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman second baseman
Rachel Taylor (Marshall, Va./Fauquier).
Lock Haven tied the game in the fifth as Gabrielle Henson walked and was replaced by pinch runner Amanda Loar. Loar moved to third on a Faith Ceely single and scored when she stole home.
Shepherd plated five runs in the sixth to seal the win. Freshman outfielder
Kaitlyn Konopka (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) had a three-run double to highlight the rally.
The Bald Eagles added a run in the seventh on an RBI-double by Ceely
Junior pitcher
Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (7.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 6 Ks, 4 BB) (8-6) gained the win. Bekah Slattery (6.0 IP, 10 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 5 K, 2 BB) (16-5) took the loss.
Lock Haven took a 1-0 lead in the nightcap in the second as Paige Stuppy led off with a walk and later scored on a single by Ceely.
Shepherd rallied with a pair of runs in the fourth on a two-run single by Taylor to gain the win.
Ceely and Rachel Mouillesseaux each had a pair hits for Lock Haven.
Sophomore pitcher
Kaitlin Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run/Francis Marion) (7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER 2 Ks, 3 BB) (19-4) picked up the win for the Rams. Mouillesseaux (3.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 Ks, 3 BB) (12-9) took the loss for the Bald Eagles
The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Fairmont State for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
