Shepherd Baseball Sweeps Slippery Rock

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Shepherd University (25-9) swept Slippery Rock (9-32) in baseball doubleheader action at Slippery Rock on Tuesday. The Rams recorded a 5-3 win in game one and added a 12-4 win in the nightcap.

Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the second inning in game as junior outfielder Ron Farley (Cockeysville, Md./Calvert Hall/Delaware State) led off with a double and scored on a double off the bat of sophomore third baseman Chase Hoffman (Middletown, Md./Middletown).

Slippery Rock took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second behind an RBI-double by Mitchell Wood and an RBI-single by Frankie Jezioro.

Shepherd plated three runs in the third on three hits and three errors. Freshman catcher Christian Hamel (Pasadena, Md./IMG Academy) and Farley each drove in a run.

The Rock cut the lead to 4-3 in the fourth as Joe Campagna doubled and later scored on a single by Wood.

Shepherd added an insurance run in the seventh as junior outfielder JJ Sarty (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove/William & Mary) reached on an error and later scored on single from sophomore designated hitter Daniel Heleine (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville/WVU).

Junior first baseman Mike Brown (Brandywine, Md./St. Mary's Ryken/Delaware Tech CC) and Farley each had 2-for-3 efforts for the Rams.

Wood and Capagna each went 2-for-3 for Slippery Rock.

Sophomore pitcher Tyler Mister (Belcamp, Md./Harford Tech (CCBC Dundalk) (4.0 IP, 5 H 3 ER , 1 K, 2 BB) (1-0) gained the win. Sophomore reliever Dan Galati (Hockessin, Del./St. Elizabeth's/Delaware State) (3.0 IP, 4 H 0 R, 3 Ks, 4 BB) earned the save. Preston Falascino (6.1 IP, 9 H 5 R, 1 ER, 6 Ks, 2 BB) (1-4) took the loss.

Shepherd scored 10 runs in the first two innings en route to the nightcap win. Brown had a two-run single to key a four-run first and Farley had a two-run double to highlight a six run second .

The Rams added a two-run homer by Heleine in the seventh.

Farley went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored and Heleine went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and three runs scored to pace the Rams.

Falascino went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two runs scored to lead The Rock.

Senior starter Jamie Driver (Broad Run, Va./Kettle Run) (5.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 3 Ks, 2 BB) (4-4) earned the win for the Rams. Jay Cortese (1.0 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 K, 3 BB) (0-2) took the loss.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Liberty for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
