Box Score 2 FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Shepherd University (31-12, 21-5 MEC) swept Fairmont State (17-23, 12-14 MEC) in MEC softball doubleheader action at Fairmont State on Tuesday. Shepherd recorded a 3-2 win in in game one and added a 10-6 triumph in the nightcap.
The Rams took a 2-0 lead in game one in the first inning on a two-run single by freshman second baseman
Rachel Taylor (Marshall, Va./Fauquier).
Fairmont State tied the game in the bottom of the first behind an RBI-single by Sissy Stubbs and RBI-ground out by Jordan Lewis.
Sophomore designated player
Kaitlin Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run/Francis Marion) hit a solo blast in the seventh to lift the Rams to victory.
Junior pitcher
Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 6 Ks, 2 BB) (9-6) gained the win for the Rams. Devin Williams (7.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 5 Ks, 3 BB) (7-9) took the loss for the Falcons.
The Rams used a 13-hit attack en route to the nightcap triumph.
Junior outfielder
Paige Buckworth (Elkton, Md./North East) belted a three-run homer to highlight a five-run first inning.
Shepherd also got a three-run blast from junior third baseman
Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson).
Courtney Iacobacci went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and four RBIs to pace the Falcons.
Munda (7.0 IP 10 H, 6 R, 4 ER 1 K, 0 BB) (20-4) earned the complete game win for the Rams. Hannah Absalom (6.0 IP, 10 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 4 Ks, 0 BB) (6-7) took the loss.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Virginia State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader. Non-conference action slated for tomorrow at Shepherd against West Chester has been cancelled.
