Shepherd Softball Sweeps Notre Dame

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Shepherd University (15-8, 9-2) swept a pair of games from Notre Dame (9-22, 3-11) in MEC softball doubleheader action at Notre Dame. The Rams posted a 7-0 victory in game one and added a 5-0 win in the nightcap.

Shepherd took a 2-0 lead in game one on the third inning on an RBI-single by sophomore designated player Kaitlin Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run/Francis Marion) and an RBI-double by freshman outfielder Connor Gilligan (Medford, N.J./Shawnee).

The Rams scored three more runs in the fourth on a two-run single by junior outfielder Paige Buckworth (Elkton, Md./North East) and an RBI-single by Munda.

Shepherd added two more runs in the fifth on an RBI-triple by sophomore outfielder Courtney Clemons (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) and an RBI-single from freshman shortstop Kaitlyn Konopka (Medford, N.J./Shawnee).

Munda went 3-for-3 and Konopka added a 3-for-4 effort to lead the Rams.

Mackenzie Wallace and Anna Myers each had a pair of hits for the Falcons.

Junior pitcher Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (4.0 IP, 5 H, 3 Ks, 3 BB) (6-3) gained the win for the Rams, while junior pitcher Kirsten Barstad (Joppa, Md./Mercy) (3.0 IP 4 H, 1 K, 1 BB) picked up the save. Wallace (4.0 IP, 10 H, 5 ER, 1 K, 1 BB) (2-3) took the loss for the Falcons.

Shepherd broke a scoreless tie in the sixth with a pair of runs in the nightcap. Konopka singled and later scored on a double by Buckworth, while Munda reached on a walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

The Rams added three runs in the seventh on a three-run blast by junior third baseman Alexandra Witt (Harpers Ferry, W.Va./Jefferson).

Clemons went 3-for-4 and Konopka added a pair of hits to pace Shepherd.

Wallace had three hits and Erin Calhoun added a pair of hits for the Falcons.

Munda  (6.0 IP, 8 H, 4 Ks, 1 BB) (9-4) earned the win for the Rams. Ashley Pokraka (7.0 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 7 Ks, 2 BB) took the loss for the Falcons

The Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to Urbana for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
