Box Score TROUTVILLE, Va. – Shepherd University (34-16) dropped a 7-2 decision to Concord (31-22) at the MEC Softball Tournament on Saturday. The loss eliminates Shepherd from tournament play.
Concord took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Alayna Furr led off with a double and later scored on a ground out by Alyssa Morris.
Shepherd tied the game in the second as from sophomore pitcher/designated player
Kaitlin Munda (Nokesville, Va./Kettle Run/Francis Marion) reached on a hit-by-pitch and later scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore outfielder
Courtney Clemons (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin).
The Rams took a 2-1 lead in the third as junior outfielder
Paige Buckworth (Elkton, Md./North East) singled and later scored on a single off the bat of Munda.
Morris doubled and later scored on a single by Kristen Rose to tie the game in the fourth.
The Mountain Lions plated three run on three hits and two errors in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead. Abby Beatty and Kylie Kent each drove in runs.
Beatty added a two-run single in the seventh to complete the scoring.
Beatty (7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 5 K, 3 BB) (9-4) gained the complete game win for Concord. Junior pitcher
Tara Hanson (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) (6.2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 Ks, 1 BB) (11-9) took the loss.
The Rams await word on Monday morning for a possible NCAA II regional bid.
