Shepherd Baseball Reaches 30-Win Mark; Splits with Notre Dame

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio – Shepherd University (30-12, 21-7) split with Notre Dame (23-23, 16-12) in MEC baseball doubleheader action at Notre Dame on Sunday. The Rams recorded an 11-2 win in game one, while Notre Dame posted a 2-1 win in the nightcap.

The Rams used a 14-hit attack en route to the game one win.
 
Clinging to a 2-0 lead, Shepherd plated seven runs in the third inning. Sophomore designated hitter Daniel Heleine (Hedgesville, W.Va./Hedgesville/WVU) hit a grand slam and senior shortstop Tre Porter (Stephens City, Va./Sherando/Potomac State) added a two-run double to highlight the rally.

Ross Barker and Austin Barnhart each drove in a run for the Falcons in the fourth to cut the lead to 9-2.

Shepherd scored two more runs in the seventh on an RBI-single by junior pinch-runner Darius Jones (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) and an RBI-double by senior second baseman Zane Bard (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg/Mount St. Mary's).

Junior second baseman Brandon Kirk (Hamilton, N.J./Hamilton West/Mercer CC) went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored to lead the Rams.

Freshman pitcher AJ Stead (Culpeper, Va./Eastern View) (5.0 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 Ks, 4 BB) (5-1) gained the win for the Rams. Josh Armbruster (2.2 IP, 8 H, 9 R, 8 ER,1 K,  4 BB) (6-3) took the loss for the Falcons,

Notre Dame took as 1-0 lead in the third inning in the nightcap on an RBI-double by Danny Beaver.

Shepherd tied the game in the sixth when Junior outfielder JJ Sarty (Purcellville, Va./Woodgrove/William & Mary) walked and later scored on a wild pitch.

Notre Dame scored the game-winning run in the ninth on an RBI-single by Barnhart.

Porter had a pair of hits to lead the Rams.

Julio Rosales went 3-for-3 with a run scored to lead the Falcons.

Cam Fuller (9.0 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 7 Ks, 3 BB) (3-2) earned the win for Notre Dame. Sophomore reliever Dan Galati (Hockessin, Del./St. Elizabeth's/Delaware State) (0.2 IP, 3 H 1 ER, 0 Ks, 0 BB) (0-2) took the loss.

The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Fairmont State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
