Jeff Ziemba (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) completed 21-of-28 passes for 355 yards and four touchdowns to lead Shepherd University (3-0, 3-0 MEC) to a 64-13 win over UVa-Wise (1-2, 0-2 MEC) in MEC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
The Rams took a 6-0 when Ziemba fired a 36-yard scoring strike to senior wide receiver
CJ Davis (Hagerstown, Md./South Hagerstown) with 12:29 left in the first quarter. The extra point attempt was blocked.
Ziemba and Davis teamed on a 19-yard scoring pass with 3:00 left in the first quarter to up the Shepherd lead to 13-0. Junior kicker
Zach Wise (Berkeley Springs, W.Va./Berkeley Springs) added the extra point.
Redshirt-freshman running back
Deonte Glover (Inwood, W.Va./Musselman) dashed 67 yards for a touchdown to give the Rams a 20-0 lead. The extra point attempt was blocked.
Trent Martin connected on a 21-yard field goal for the Highland Cavaliers with 11:52 left in the second quarter to cut the lead to 20-3.
Ziemba connected with Brown on a 22-yard scoring pass to extend the Shepherd lead to 26-3 with 9:59 left in the second quarter.
The same duo teamed on a one-yard scoring pass minutes later to give the Rams a 33-3 lead.
The Rams took a 40-3 lead when freshman running back
Brandon Hlavach (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) scored on a three-yard run with 5:47 left in the second quarter.
Brycen Lee teamed with Corey Hilberath on a 17-yard scoring strike with 3:26 left in the half for UVa-Wise to make it a 40-10 Shepherd lead at the break.
Wise connected on a 31-yard field goal for the Rams to increase the lead to 43-3 with 12:45 left in the third quarter.
Junior quarterback
Connor Jessop (Ashburn, Va./Broad Run/Virginia Tech) scored on a three-yard run with 8:13 left in the third quarter.
Jessop fired a 22-yard touchdown pass to redshirt-freshman wide receiver
Dakwon Foreman (Moyock, N.C./Currituck County) with 14:55 left in the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 57-10.
Sophomore quarterback
Nic Hammer (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford) scored on a one-yard plunge to increase the lead to with 64-10 with 9:00 remaining.
Martin drilled a 35-yard field goal for Wise with 4:54 remaining to complete the scoring.
Jessop added a 6-of-9 effort for 112 yards and a score, while Hammer was 2-of-2 for 49 yards. Lee completed 23-of-34 passes for 131 yards and a scored for the Highland Cavaliers.
Glover led the Shepherd rushing attack with seven carries for 94 yards. Javonte Latney had 12 carries for 46 yards to lead Wise.
Three Rams had 100 receiving yards or more on the day. Brown had nine receptions for 129 yards, Davis had six catches for 154 yards, while sophomore wide receiver
Ryan Feiss (Forest Hill, Md./North Hartford) added six receptions for 113 yards.
Shepherd amassed 649 yards of total offense, while UVa-Wise totaled 267.
Senior defensive back
Tre Sullivan (Accokeek, Md./Gwynn Park) posted a game-high 10 tackles (8 solo) to lead the Shepherd defense. All-American linebacker Zachary Blair had seven tackles (5 solo) to pace the Highland Cavaliers.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Notre Dame for a noon contest.
CJ Davis had a pair of touchdown catches on the day.
