SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore forward Samantha Leonard (Conowingo, Md./Perryville) scored on a pass from junior defender/midfielder Danielle Fernandez (Clarksburg, Md./Damascus) at the 3:47 mark to lift Shepherd University (4-3-1, 3-3-1 MEC)  to a 1-0 win over Urbana University (1-8-0, 1-6-0 MEC) in MEC women's soccer action at Shepherd on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore Christi LaBella (Ijamsville, Md./Oakdale) (3) and classmate Kelsey Rhoderick (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) (3) combined to record six saves in a shutout effort in goal for the Rams. Katherine Beech had three saves for the Blue Knights.

Urbana had a 20-10 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Charleston for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
